Tapestry Weavers South Exhibition
February 7 @ 9:00 am - April 29 @ 5:00 pm
The main gallery of the Folk Art Center features over 50 handcrafted fiber pieces from the artists of Tapestry Weavers South, including three members — Tommye Scanlin, Pat Williams, and Sandy Adair — of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. While tapestries were traditionally a collaborative art form, contemporary tapestries like the ones seen in this exhibition are created entirely by the same person, requiring multiple skills to accomplish successfully. These include drawing/computer graphics for designing, color skills and choice of yarns, and technical weaving to create the actual tapestry.
