Aaron Siskind: A Painter’s Photographer and Works on Paper by BMC Artists
March 1 - May 18
An exhibit at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, curated by James Barron, will show vintage photographs by Aaron Siskind revealing his elegant approach to abstraction through photography. Siskind was a photography professor at avant-garde Black Mountain College during the summer of 1951 — the only photographer accepted as an equal by the abstract expressionist painters. The exhibit also includes select works on paper by BMC artists John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Willem de Kooning, Ray Johnson, and Jack Tworkov, culled from private collections.
