An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until July 31, 2019
Opening Reception: June 21, 6-9pm
Opening his fifth show in the last five years, Rimas Zailskas, photographer and publisher of Asheville Made, Bold Life, and Carolina Home + Garden magazines, is excited to share a collection of black-and-white images that he captured for a personal project. “I’ve taken photos of people and places, originally stemming from an idea about Secret Hendersonville,” Rimas explains. “It’s about looking for places that people don’t know exist anymore – lost places.” Searching for abandoned buildings, walking beneath the streets of Hendersonville, and capturing local people that he thinks have an intriguing and mysterious look, Rimas discovered much more about the city than he anticipated. Wrecked buildings that people walk past every day, vine covered structures, and people whose looks tell a story are some of the main subjects he is interested in learning more about through his lens. For the exhibition, each photo being presented was shot on his iPhone. “I’m not the person who wants to document certain things,” says Rimas. “I usually photograph anything and everything. This time, I just looked for places that weren’t lost, but could be.”
