The Natural World

The Ring-Master, Alec Hall

If you’ve ever climbed to the top of Bearwallow Mountain — a 4,232-foot grassy bald in the Hickory Nut Gorge — and felt an overwhelming sense of calm, you have Conserving Carolina to thank. A Hendersonville-based land conservancy, this nonprofit has protected almost 49,000 acres across the region and played a crucial role in the development of public lands. To support Conserving Carolina’s mission, The Gallery at Flat Rock will accept donations on the nonprofit’s behalf during its latest exhibition, The Natural World. Per a press statement, the show will feature artwork focused on protecting, restoring, and inspiring appreciation” of nature. Whether directly working outdoors or in creating artistic interpretations of the natural world, together we are protecting the beautiful plants, animals, and vistas of our region,” says Jenn Tutor, the development director at Conserving Carolina. On Saturday, Sept. 21, 4:30-7:30pm, the nonprofit will host the Conservation Celebration — its largest fundraiser of the year — at Blue Ridge Community College (180 West Campus Drive, Flat Rock). Expect libations, live music, and compelling programming. Tickets can be purchased online at conservationcelebration.org.
