If bonding with your significant other over takeout and Netflix has grown stale, Atlanta-based artist Jeremy Brown has a solution: his LOVE IS ART kits. These kits include a plastic drop cloth, a cotton canvas, nontoxic paint, two pairs of disposable slippers, and a soft-mesh body scrubber. The idea is to create an abstract painting with your partner using your naked (or scantily clad) body as a paintbrush. Brown began making the kits in 2008 as a way of connecting love and art, both of which require “patience, dedication, practice, creativity, [an] open mind, and an open heart,” he writes on his website. This September, two queer couples will use Brown’s kits to create unique pieces during “Love is Art.” Hosted at Marquee, Asheville’s design-centric marketplace, the event will include live music, specialty cocktails, and a raffle. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Blue Ridge Pride. “We are proud of our community of creatives under one roof celebrating diversity and inclusion,” says Robert Nicholas, owner of Marquee.
