Identitas

Real Time, Liz Trader Williams

Now open at Tracey Morgan Gallery, Identitas delves into the life histories of six artists: Erika Diamond, Marcus Dunn, Vanessa German, Luis Alvaro Sahagun, Daniel Simone, and Liz Trader Williams, each of whom brings a unique perspective on the complexities of heritage and the way it shapes individual identity. “The works in Identitas examine culture and heritage through personal narratives, reflecting each included artist’s distinctly unique perspective on self and experience,” the gallery shares in a press statement. “Paradoxically, the word ‘identity’ comes from the Latin ‘identitas’ meaning ‘sameness,’ a profound reminder that at our core we are more similar than divergent.” Identitas comes at a critical moment. Recent political and social tensions have caused many to question their place within society, especially those whose identities have been marginalized or misunderstood. This exhibition serves as a timely reminder of the power of diversity, offering a space where individual stories challenge the status quo and unite us in our shared humanity. The show runs through May 10.
