For photographer LeeAnn Donnelly, the historic Kenilworth neighborhood has always felt like a fairytale. “There’s a kind of magical — even mystical — feeling in pockets of Kenilworth,” says Donnelly, who grew up in Asheville. “It must have something to do with the majesty of the trees, the windy roads, and the big houses … .” You can experience this otherworldly aura for yourself during the Kenilworth Artists Association Studio Tour. A fixture of the community for more than two decades, the tour invites creatives to open their workspaces to visitors. This year, Donnelly will exhibit her botanical photographs at ceramicist Joan Pennington’s studio. “I’m fascinated by the intricacies and geometry of a single flower petal and have spent a lot of time trying to capture those details in my photography,” she says. “I’m inspired by flowers in almost any setting — whether a flower is in its natural habitat, on a flower farm, in a flower shop, at a wedding or event, or even in the floral section at Trader Joe’s.” In addition to Donnelly, visitors can expect about 25 other artists stretching from Digges Road to Finalee Avenue.
