Having spent her entire life in the South with an ever-growing adoration for Southern landscapes, Marilyn Sparks conveys the essence of summer in the Southeast through her canvases. The artist’s new exhibit, “Sparks of Summer,” opening at the Grand Bohemian Hotel’s Gallery, is a celebration and preservation of her memories of summers spent in the South.
“My desire is that my paintings will stir memories for others, as well,” Sparks enlightens. “Most of my paintings are not site specific, so that everyone can relate to times and places in their own life experiences.”
Sparks’ works include pastoral scenes of grassy fields covered in wildflowers, old barns, long winding paths, bicycles on the beach, canoes in rippling water, nighttime cityscapes, coastlines, and an assortment of still-life bouquets.
The artist works out of her studio in Cumming, Georgia, and shares her passion for fine art all across the region. “I am looking forward to the show and being in Asheville,” says Sparks. “Asheville has such a vibrant art community and attracts so many collectors, [so] I’m sure we will have an enthusiastic crowd. I love it when I get to mix and mingle and meet the wonderful folks who appreciate and collect my work.”
