In January, the River Arts District Artists (RADA) kicked off “Who Am I, Who Are We?,” a year-long initiative in which community creatives riff on a monthly theme. Now nine months deep in the project, about 75 RADA members are slated to take a whirl in The Vortex this September. Per a gallery statement, artists with Trackside Studios (375 Depot St., Asheville, River Arts District, tracksidestudios.com) will present work that offers different “perspectives on the spinning, spiraling forces in our lives that pull us into the vortex, often disrupting our internal and external landscapes.” A reception is planned for Saturday, Sept. 14, 2-6pm. Artists with Philip DeAngelo Studio (115 Roberts St., River Arts District, Asheville, philipdeangeloart.com) will also participate in the September event. “… This far into the year, the artists are finding their niches,” the studio shares. “It is likely Phil’s acrylic painting will possess a moody sky and Greg Vineyard’s mixed-media sculpture will have elements sticking up on wires in relation to September’s theme … .” Come October, copper sculptor Claudia Moore Field and mixed-media painter Chrys Corn Goodman — both represented by the studio — will explore the theme Changing Faces in “personally-connecting ways.” (See story on Field in this issue.)
