Second chances can be stunningly stylish. Color Me Goodwill, a fashion show benefiting Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, is evidence of that.
Now in its eighth year, the sell-out event invites area designers to shop for $200 of repurposed supplies at a local Goodwill store. They must then breathe new life into their thrifted scores by creating a five-piece collection of catwalk-ready couture with a specific color in mind. (During the show, the ensembles are modeled by past participants in employment programs and services of Goodwill.)
For this April’s iteration, seven designers and teams will participate in the high-fashion fundraiser: House of Sconiers (blue), MPP McFabricators (purple), Mae Reilly Mueller (red), Neil Rostick (green), Sheila Thibodeaux (pink), Sybil Todd (orange), and Joslyn Werner (brown).
The overall winner will be selected by a panel of expert judges and will receive a cash prize of $1,000. The winner of the audience choice vote receives $500.
“Every year, the designers of Color Me Goodwill somehow reach new heights of innovation and creativity,” Lance Crawford, Goodwill’s director of workforce development in Asheville, shared in a recent press statement. “We wanted to reward the time and energy that these design teams put into their collections and continue to showcase the craftspeople that make Asheville’s sustainable fashion community so unique.”
The 8th Annual Color Me Goodwill Fashion Show happens Friday, April 19, 7pm at The Orange Peel (101 Biltmore Ave., Asheville). $20/$25. For more information, see goodwillwnc.org.
