Pink Dog Creative artists reinterpret Mardi Gras
The Confabulist, Patti Anastasi

Masks come off, and identities multiply in Pink Dog Mardi Gras: Lovers, Sinners, and Misfits, a spirited group exhibition opening February 13 at Pink Dog Creative. Drawing on the layered symbolism and cultural fusion of Mardi Gras, the show invites viewers into a world where indulgence and restraint collide, tradition bends, and self-expression reigns. Featuring work by 25 artists from Pink Dog’s roster, the exhibition spans painting, mixed media, and other approaches, each offering a distinct take on the holiday’s many meanings. Some works lean into the sensory excess of Mardi Gras — beads, sequins, feathers, and saturated color — while others use the holiday as a lens for examining identity, desire, and belonging. The result is a visually rich, emotionally varied show that embraces contradiction and welcomes the misfits along with the faithful.
