Sky Dai’s surreal paintings flow into Pink Dog Gallery

Water becomes both subject and metaphor in What Happens to the Water, Happens to the People, on view May 8-June 7 at Pink Dog Gallery in the River Arts District. Featuring Asheville-based artist Sky Dai, the exhibition moves through dreamlike figurative works where bodies and landscapes merge. Dai’s paintings draw from psychic visions, grief, and ritual, shaped in part by the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and a personal accident that left the artist largely homebound. Out of that stillness emerged a body of work attuned to cycles of rupture and repair. Figures dissolve into water. Storm systems move through the body itself. Working across oil and mixed media, Dai creates compositions that feel immersive and fluid, inviting viewers into a space where transformation is constant. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, May 8, from 6-9pm.
