Grovewood honors the Craftsman ethos

Though based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, painter Shawn Krueger has long found inspiration in the mountains of Western North Carolina, returning again and again to their tonal moods and quiet light. His canvases, rooted in both the American Tonalist and Arts & Crafts traditions, balance atmosphere with restraint. “My search for peace, place, and quiet beauty has only grown more important,” he reflects. “The times in which we are living practically demand it of us, and I don’t think we have a choice.” Krueger’s award-winning work anchors Artful Living: The Spirit of the Craftsman Style, a group exhibition at Grovewood Gallery that celebrates the enduring ethos of simplicity, utility, and harmony with nature. Alongside Krueger’s contemplative landscapes, visitors will encounter heirloom-quality furniture by Timothy Livingston, ceramic works by Roycroft Artisan Leslie Green Guilbault, and iron and mica lamps by blacksmith Paul Garrett.
