Renewal

Riverview Station, Stephen Santore

Spring isn’t just about painted trilliums and flame azaleas—it’s about rebirth, reflection, and, in the case of the latest group show at Philip DeAngelo Studio and Gallery, renewal. Opening on March 22, Renewal brings together works that process the collective experience of rebuilding after Helene. The display will be fronted by Stephen Santore’s striking black-and-white photographs of the River Arts District after the flood. In a press statement, Santore describes the pieces as “an examination of how the water and the turbulence … how the mix of everything, pushed and shoved what we make.” The photographer will be joined by other regional artists such as Philip DeAngelo, Cassie Butcher, Claudia Moore Field, and Greg Vineyard. “‘Renewal’ is intended to share both the depth and breadth of the gallery artists’ experiences, each in their own way with their creative contributions,” the venue shares. “Looking both back and forward, works will include everything from early-days reactions to onward and upward perspectives, which, by nature of the season, may very well include odes to spring.”

Renewal: March 22-April 5; Opening Reception: Saturday, March 22, 5-7pm
