Saint Nick is a magical man capable of many amazing feats, but shoving triptych paintings, life-sized sculptures, and other gargantuan pieces of art in his sleigh isn’t one of them. With this in mind, Momentum Gallery is once again presenting its annual wintertime show, Small Work | Big Impact. According to a gallery statement, the group exhibition features “intimately scaled pieces by gallery standouts and special guests,” allowing visitors to purchase appropriately sized holiday gifts for loved ones. This December, Momentum is also hosting a solo exhibition of work by contemporary glass sculptor Amber Cowan. Based in Philadelphia, Cowan creates wall-mounted and freestanding tableaus using recycled, upcycled, and second-life pressed glass. “Her recent diorama-style pieces tell stories of self-discovery, escapism, and the power of the feminine by utilizing figurines and animals found in collected antique glass pieces,” Momentum shares in a press statement. “Her work can be found in the permanent collections of over a dozen museums worldwide, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and the Shanghai Museum of Glass.” Both exhibitions run through early February.
