A Season to Settle

Fairview artists bring warmth back to fall
Books, Paula Entin

Last fall didn’t feel like fall. When Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina, birdsong was traded for the buzz of chainsaws, and evenings once meant for simmering soup turned into nights of hauling debris. This year, Fairview’s Re.Imagine Gallery is reclaiming the season with Home Sweet Home, a show devoted to warmth, renewal, and the comfort of handmade art. “We want to embrace all handwork as an art form,” says artist Fleta Monaghan, who will exhibit a new series of small cold-wax paintings featuring symbolic animals, crows among them. The exhibition runs October 17 through January 7 and brings together regional painters, potters, textile artists, and sculptors in what Monaghan calls a “milestone” moment for the creative community. “We wanted to focus on what makes life feel better going forward,” she says. “We wanted to focus on how we make our homes more interesting and warm, and how handmade art can enrich that.”

Home Sweet Home: October 17-January 7, 2026; Opening Reception: Sunday, Oct. 19, 1-5pm
