Embodiment: Symbolic Narrative

Wayfinding Panorama, Bridget Benton

From the misty hills of western Ireland to the walls of a mountain gallery, two artists with divergent voices and a shared visual language come together in Embodiment: Symbolic Narrative. This new duo exhibition at Re.Imagine Gallery and Studios features the work of Bridget Benton, a local mixed-media artist known for her photographic collages, and Kelly Williams, a Portland-based painter whose tactile surfaces are built from ash, beeswax, and earth. Though their mediums diverge, their month-long residency in Ireland in December 2023 revealed a creative kinship rooted in metaphor and memory. There, amid ancient ruins and wind-worn landscapes, their longtime friendship became fertile ground for cross-pollination. “Long-time friends, the two collaborated and influenced one another, each seeing their work develop in new and interesting ways,” the women share in a press release. The resulting pieces invite viewers into a symbolic terrain where personal narrative meets collective myth. “Benton and Williams hope that people seeing the work will explore and find their own personal stories and meanings reflected there,” reads a gallery statement. The show opens with a public reception on Sunday, April 27, from 1-5pm.
