Texture takes center stage in Pushing the Boundaries, a new group exhibition at Mark Bettis Gallery. Featuring works by more than 10 local, regional, and national artists, the show challenges traditional definitions of the canvas, offering layered, tactile pieces that invite closer inspection. “Our artists are creating a showcase of artworks that explores the use of texture, mesmerizing you with surfaces that make you want to reach out and touch,” the gallery shares. “They will be creating a new experience, taking you beyond the two-dimensional.” Among the featured creatives is Asheville-based Sam Rae Edmiston, who is best known for her intuitive mixed-media pieces. “My work is inspired by everyday things: music, people, nature, animals,” she tells Asheville Made. “… it all gets stored in my mind’s attic until it’s ready to emerge.”
