A hare seems caught mid-thought. A fox lingers like it knows more than it’s letting on. A wolf watches quietly, patient and poised. Tina Curry doesn’t just sculpt animals — she gives them presence. “Animals have a story of their own,” says the Knoxville-based artist. “I like to think they’re watching us just as much as we watch them.” Into the Wild brings Curry’s expressive creatures to Grovewood Gallery for a solo show that blurs the line between wild and domestic, sculpture and story. Featured works are hand-built from clay and fired using unique combustibles, like wood chips, dried coffee grounds, banana peels, salt, copper carbonate, and even cow manure. This menagerie of materials “produces an array of color, from gray to burgundy to black,” the artist shares. The exhibition opens on Saturday, July 12.
