Quiet Growth

Anastasiia Avramchuk explores resilience through botanical drawing
Agapanthus, Anastasiia Avramchuk

Delicate petals, winter buds, and branches suspended in light take on quiet weight in The Garden of Quiet Resistance, an exhibition by Ukrainian artist Anastasiia Avramchuk at Pink Dog Gallery. Working in watercolor, colored pencil, and ink, Avramchuk renders botanical forms with careful attention, drawing out their translucency, structure, and subtle movement. Some works float against white space, emphasizing fragility, while others emerge from deep, shadowed backgrounds. Together, they trace a rhythm between vulnerability and endurance — moments where life persists, even in uncertain conditions. For Avramchuk, the act of drawing is as important as the finished piece. Close observation becomes a meditative practice, a way to remain present and grounded. That perspective is shaped by her experiences in Ukraine during the ongoing war, where she worked with children in refugee shelters and previously occupied regions, using art to foster focus, safety, and emotional connection. Now based in North Carolina, Avramchuk brings that sensibility to Asheville, framing beauty not as escape, but as a quiet form of resistance.
