For more than 20 years, the Community Housing Coalition (CHC) of Madison County has kept low-income residents safe by fixing leaking roofs, updating faulty electrical systems, pumping septic tanks, and facilitating other urgent home repairs. Since 2019, ReClaim Madison — a thrift store packed with a curated selection of used furniture and salvaged building materials — has supported the nonprofit by generating revenue. The thrift store also supports CHC by hosting the Upcycle Art Auction every spring. Now in its fourth iteration, the event invites regional artists to submit pieces made from recycled materials for inclusion in a juried silent auction. The event also includes a non-juried show of community artwork available at pre-set prices. In the past, participants have presented everything from outlandish baby-doll sculptures to functional spoons carved from scrap wood. This year, artists have the special challenge of riffing on the theme Outside the Box.” Laura Cheatham, community engagement manager at CHC, expects the soirée to be a secondhand sensation. “ReClaim Madisons community impact has grown by leaps and bounds,” she says, and it only makes sense that this annual fundraiser would keep pace.”

The 4th Annual Upcycle Art Auction runs from April 18-27 at The Madison County Arts Center (90 South Main St., Marshall). an opening reception happens Thursday, April 18, 5-8pm. For more information, see chcmadisoncountync.org/reclaim/upcycle-auction/.
