Domestic Tranquility?

Weeping Quilt 6, Jess Jones

On view at Momentum Gallery through late June, Domestic Tranquility? invites viewers to reconsider the domestic space not as a haven of comfort, but as a layered landscape shaped by memory, labor, and identity. Through evocative works by artists Patty Carroll, Crystal Gregory, Jennifer Halvorson, and Jess Jones, the exhibition explores the quiet tensions and unspoken narratives that linger in everyday objects and spaces. Carroll’s staged photographs feature anonymous female figures consumed by decorative interiors, a sharp commentary on the erasure of self within domestic roles. Gregory encases handwoven textiles in concrete, fusing softness and structure to examine the physical and emotional architecture of home. Halvorson transforms everyday items like mason jars and knit textiles into surreal glass sculptures that evoke both whimsy and fragility. Meanwhile, Jones’ cascading fabric works — composed of delicate yo-yos and layered vintage quilts — gesture toward the weight and repetition of domestic labor. United by their material fluency and conceptual depth, the artists in Domestic Tranquility? push back against nostalgic notions of home.
