Light and Mystery

John Davis Held paints the sacred at Lucy Clark Gallery
Young Hare: Master Study, John Davis Held

On Saturday, October 11, the Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio in Brevard will welcome acclaimed painter John Davis Held for a free live demonstration from 12-4 p.m. Known for his ethereal skies and radiant landscapes, Held works in both oil and pastel, drawing inspiration from the Hudson River School, Luminism, and the masters of the Renaissance. “As an artist,” Held shares, “I am doing more than just creating beautiful paintings, but rather probing an extraordinary and sacred mystery from different vantage points to confirm that something truly amazing lies underneath the beauty of my art.” This event comes just months after Held received national recognition at Troika Gallery’s Fabulous Forgeries competition in Maryland, where he was honored with the “Most Believable” award for his meticulous master study of Albrecht Dürer’s “Young Hare.” The piece drew praise from Dr. Dan Weiss, former president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for its remarkable fidelity to the 16th-century original. The afternoon at Lucy Clark Gallery offers visitors a rare opportunity to watch a master at work and glimpse the timeless techniques behind his luminous, light-filled paintings.

Encounters with Creatives: John Davis Held, Master Painter happens Saturday, October 11, 12-4pm at Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio (51 West Main St., Brevard). Free. See more at lucyclarkgallery.com.
