Returning to the Ridge

For generations, Western North Carolina has been a hotbed of handmade brilliance. That creative energy is on vibrant display this summer in Returning to the Ridge, the very first exhibition from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area’s Craft Trails initiative. On view at Mars Landing Galleries, the show brings together 33 mountain makers working in everything from traditional basketry to expressive printmaking to contemporary fiber art. “The Returning to the Ridge craft exhibition builds on Western North Carolina’s history as a leading center for craft production and education in the United States,” curator Anna Fariello shares in a press release. “The participating craft makers not only created incredibly beautiful objects but also continue to keep alive hand-making traditions.”
