Terra Forma

Gone to Seed, Crista Cammaroto

This summer at Tryon Arts & Crafts School, two artists will dig deep into themes of material, memory, and transformation. In Terra Forma, Charlotte-based Crista Cammaroto will present a solo show of photo-based montages documenting her ephemeral earthworks — installations made from leaves, soil, and storm debris. Inside the gallery, her site-specific installation made entirely of organic materials will invite viewers to slow down and honor the rhythms of the natural world. Outside, a new memorial earthwork built from debris from Hurricane Helene will pay quiet tribute to loss and resilience, and will eventually become a permanent garden feature on campus. In conversation with this land-based work, Penland potter Michael Kline will offer a companion exhibit of salt-glazed, wood-fired vessels inspired by Korean techniques and historic North Carolina pottery.

Terra Forma and Pottery by Michael Kline: August 14-October 9; Opening Reception: Thursday, August 14, 6-8pm
