Don’t let the name fool you: Thrown Together Potters is no accidental assemblage. This seasoned collective of seven North Carolina ceramicists has spent years forging a network of mutual support, creative exchange, and collaborative spirit. From Shelby to Summerfield, each member brings a distinct voice to the wheel — and for a summer exhibition at Toe River Arts, they’re combining forces in more ways than one. Alongside new individual work that reflects each artist’s current studio practice, the group will debut a series of collaborative pieces made exclusively for the show. “… successful art collaborations are challenging but rewarding endeavors,” group member Phil Haralam shares in a press release. “They require the participating parties to contribute their specific perspectives while staying receptive to their collaborator’s input. When it works well, both artists can gain a new perspective on their work and sow seeds for future projects and ideas.” Roughly 70 wall and pedestal pieces will be on view. Participating artists include Haralam, Jennifer Mecca, Michael Hamlin, Ron Philbeck, Amy Sanders, Charlie Tefft, and Julie Wiggins.
